This
is the cottage that is for rent. It is called the "Schwende Hut". The reason
I call it that is because in 1985 I went skiing up Mt Tecumseh with my
sister and at the top there was a little shack where you could get a hot
dog and hot cocoa. The sign outside said "Schwende
Hut". For some reason, I thought it was hilarious. I never forgot it and
so when I got this house, I decided to call it the "Schwende Hut" There
is a sign on the door that says that now too. By the way, I heard somewhere
that in German "Schwende Hut" means "Food House".
The house is heated with propane. It looks like a fireplace and is very romantic but it can easily heat that house in no time. There is a thermostat near the bathroom that controls the fire and there is a fan that kicks in when the fire gets hot. If you do not like the sound of the fan, you can unplug it. Dont put anything on the stove top or adjust the controls. Trust me on this, this stove will put out as much heat as you need. About stuff in the house: although there are some sheets and towels, I suggest you bring your own stuff. I do try to provide things for people who forget, such as TP, paper towels, tampax, coffee and so on, but you will probably want to have your own stuff too. Closet space is limited. There are plenty of places to hang things, however and lots of drawer space for clothes and such. The house can probably sleep 4 - 6 people easily - two in the master queen; two in the full lower bunk; one in the upper bunk and one on the couch. |

This is the private beach. In the summertime, the water is really warm so don't forget to bring your bathing suit and sunblock when you come here for a visit!

This is the view from the corner bedroom into the living room. When I bought the house it had been abandoned since the 70ís. It was pretty bad. It had orange shag carpeting that was rotten and dropped ceiling tiles. It had an old stove from the 50s and was heated by a coal stove. We worked long and hard to rehabilitate the house. Now everything is new and fresh and clean.

This is a view into the kitchen from the living room. I made the table out of some oak floorboards. The stove is a new GE electric cook top. The appliances are new. There is a microwave, a toaster oven, a Mr. Coffee, a blender and a fridge. The fridge is not new. There are pots and pans and flatware and stoneware and glasses and everything you need. There is no oven however. No one has complained about that. There is also a new gas grill outside that you can use and a picnic table.

This is a view of the Master Bedroom from the living room. It contains a queen sized bed. There is a dresser with a mirror here but I could not capture it in the photo. There are lamps and night tables and two large windows. You can see the lake from the windows. The fuse box is in this room too.

This is the bunk room. The bunk room contains a bunk bed with a full sized bed on the bottom and a twin on the top. The room has a closet for towels, blankets and sheets. There is also a mirrored dresser in this room. Usually I keep a small vacuum under the bed.

This is a view of the bathroom. The bathroom has a shower, a toilet and a sink. There is also a closet with shelves for various items. Usually I put cleaning stuff there. The pump drain is in the corner. The room is electrically heated. Keep it at 60 degrees or the fuse will blow and the bathroom will be cold. There is a 30 gallon electric hot water tank there. Pressure for the shower is excellent. The house uses a septic tank and system so be judicious about flushing and water usage please.
